Assistant Manager - AI Build Engineer

Location: India/Madurai

Coats is a world leader in thread manufacturing and structural components for apparel and footwear, as well as an innovative pioneer in performance materials. These critical solutions are used to create a wide range of products, including ones that provide safety and protection for people, data and the environment.

Trusted by the world's leading companies to deliver crucial, innovative, and sustainable solutions, we provide value-adding products including apparel, footwear and speciality threads.

With a proud heritage dating back more than 250 years and a spirit of evolution to constantly stay ahead of changing market needs, we have operations across 50 countries with a workforce of over 17,000, serving our customers worldwide.

Role Purpose:

  • We are building a small central AI engineering team that works across every function in the Coats Group — Finance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, HR, Commercial, and Operations. The AI Build Engineer is the hands-on builder in that team.
  • You will not be generating strategy or writing business cases. You will be given a clear business requirement and your job is to build the solution. One week you might be building a workflow that automatically generates weekly finance reports from connected data sources. The next you might be building a multi-agent pipeline that reads procurement documents and flags anomalies. You will work across two capability tiers:
  • Workflow automations: Connecting Claude to the tools teams already use. Scheduled agents, data pipelines, document processing, and integrations between CRM, ERP, SharePoint, and reporting tools. Builds that eliminate hours of manual work for analysts and commercial teams.
  • AI agents: Multi-step autonomous systems. Agents that research, reason, and act across multiple tools without human intervention. RAG systems over internal document sets. Voice and conversational AI for customer-facing applications. Predictive pipelines connected to real operational data.
  • This is a role for someone who has grown up building with AI. If you have been experimenting with LLMs, building agents, and connecting APIs since before most teams had a policy for it — this is the environment for you.

What you will do (Key Responsibilities):

  • Receive business requirements from function leads and translate them into working AI builds — clarify the requirement before any build begins.
  • Design, build, test, and deploy Tier 2 workflow automations using Claude API, Claude Code, n8n, Make, or equivalent tools.
  • Design, build, test, and deploy Tier 3 AI agents using CrewAI, LangChain, LangGraph, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Build and maintain RAG systems over internal document sets using LlamaIndex, Dify, Flowise, or equivalent.
  • Integrate AI solutions with existing enterprise tools — HubSpot, SharePoint, Outlook, Power BI, ERP systems — via REST APIs and webhooks.
  • Prototype voice and conversational AI applications using ElevenLabs, Voiceflow, or equivalent platforms where the use case requires it.
  • Document every build clearly enough that the receiving team can understand what is running, how to monitor it, and who to contact if it fails.
  • Adhere to data security and governance requirements — no production data used in development without authorisation; data classification reviewed before any external tool access is granted.
  • Work across multiple teams simultaneously — this is a shared resource role, not dedicated to a single function.
  • Keep builds maintainable — clean code, version control, clear handover.
  • Contribute to the team's shared knowledge of tooling choices, prompt patterns, and integration approaches.
