Role Purpose:
To ensure that Coats’ is positioned to meet sustainability requirements of our customers (Brand, Retailer and Contractor) through provision of Life Cycle Assessment and Environmental Product Declarations for our product portfolio. The LCA Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams across the organization and will have opportunities to lead sustainability initiatives and drive positive impact for the company and the environment.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Lead, plan and execute Life Cycle Assessments for all Coats’ product groups across their cradle to gate/grave life cycle in accordance with ISO 14040/44 using SimaPro or equivalent tools
- Develop and standardize LCA data collection templates to ensure uniform and consistent primary data reporting across global manufacturing sites
- Coordinate with regional technical teams across globe to collect site-level data for conducting LCA.
- Perform data validation and quality checks to ensure completeness, accuracy, and alignment with ISO standards.
- Maintain and update LCA databases, emission factors, and background datasets to reflect process improvements, new suppliers, and technology upgrades.
- Prepare and regularly update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for LCA modelling practices, software version updates, and internal dataset revisions
- Support the integration of LCA results into digital tools such as Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and Digital Product Passport (DPP) platforms.
- Collaborate with material innovation teams to assess environmental impacts of new material developments, finishes, or production technologies.
- Generate and maintain LCA reports, carbon footprint summaries, and environmental product profiles for customers and brand submissions.
- Support the development of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for Coats products in line with ISO 14025 (Type III environmental declarations).
- Contribute to Type I ecolabelling initiatives (per ISO 14024) by providing verified product impact data and supporting compliance with ecolabel program requirements
- Provide training and awareness sessions for site teams to improve understanding of LCA data requirements and sustainability metrics.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, standards, and regulations related to LCA and sustainability to ensure that our practices are in line with best practices and legal requirements
- Maintain the internal emission management system by collecting LCA data from suppliers and updating the associated databases.
Education, Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in any engineering discipline.
- Masters in environmental engineering, Sustainability, Chemical, Textile Engineering, or a related field preferred but not essential.
- 3-6 years of experience in conducting LCAs in the textile or related industry.
- Familiarity with LCA standards & guidelines (e.g. ISO 14040/44)
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work with large data sets and deliver value adding insights.
- Familiarity with LCA methodologies, databases, and software tools such as SimaPro, GaBi, or OpenLCA.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Desirable:
- Prior experience in a textiles production environment.
- Familiarity with climate change reporting frameworks (e.g. GHG Protocol, SBTi, etc.)
