Job Purpose:
The primary purpose of this role is to effectively manage, guide, and control all engineering-related activities during shift and continuous plant operations. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining operational excellence within agreed-upon service levels, meeting the requirements of core production departments, and ensuring strict adherence to health and safety protocols and engineering-related compliance to meet both local and global regulations. The person should also gain the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to work as the acting – in - charge of Engineering manager.
Principal Accountabilities and Key Activities:
Implementation and ensure the agreed service level of Engineering department.
- Implement standard preventive maintenance covering all the machineries of the Factory.
- Ensuring the updated data for each B/D in the floor to monitor and control root cause analysis against the common fault through special software.
- Ensure all the spare parts availability in store to reduce the correction time & assure the quality of spare parts.
Control financial performance of Engineering Department
- Confirm the proper utilization of plant equipment and engineering consumables, spare parts, to confirm the extreme level of support to EM/AEM to maintain the agreed budget level.
- Ensure the total productive maintenance by our own resources to minimize the cost involving the third party.
- Understand the annual revenue budgets for engineering spread out it to all stake holders and maintained throughout the year with any major variances highlighted.
Control health and safety related and also environmental safety related issues comply with Local and global requirements
- Ensure that the plant engineering team operates in accordance with current company health and safety, as well as environmental safety policies and procedures. Actively contribute to suggesting improvements in safety protocols.
- Oversee the smooth shift operation of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) to ensure compliance with Department of Environment (DoE) requirements and global standards.
- Implement environmentally friendly operations to minimize energy consumption and contribute to sustainable practices within the plant.
- Ensure all certifications and licenses required for plant operation are up-to-date and in adherence to local government regulations.
- Prepare the plant for buyer and accreditation body audits, ensuring that all requirements are met to maintain compliance.
- Collaborate with the plant team to achieve global and local sustainability targets, providing necessary support and guidance.
Manage and develop Engineering Team:
- Lead, coach, and direct the shift engineering team to ensure they adopt and excel in world-class maintenance practices, contributing to overall operational excellence.
- Ensure the optimal operation of various zones or machineries by leveraging the talents of team members. Identify and deploy individual abilities as instructed by the Engineering Manager (EM) or Assistant Engineering Manager (AEM).
- Develop and execute proper training programs based on skill matrices and training plans for all members of the shift engineering team. Promote continuous learning and development within the team.
- Ensure proper follow-up, monitoring, and control of different zones or machineries through the designated zone accountabilities. Implement effective measures to enhance operational efficiency.
Education, Qualifications and Experience:
Essential Skills:
- M.Sc./B.Sc in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of production processes, quality control, and supply chain management.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in production management software (e.g., ERP systems).
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Desired Skills:
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement certifications.
- Strong communication skills to liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of the local rules and regulations governing H&S
- Local environmental legislation
- Preventative maintenance techniques
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001 an advantage
- Pressure vessel maintenance advantageous
