Role Purpose:
Support the Manager in managing the final winding department, ensuring all finishing employees are fully trained and equipped to achieve departmental objectives in Health & Safety (H&S), productivity, and quality. The person should also gain the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to work as the acting – in - charge of Finishing Manager.
Principal Accountabilities and Key Activities:
Manage & Control agreed service level of Finishing department.
- Assist in the leadership and development of the finishing team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Assist in the day-to-day management of the final winding department, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to established SOPs & WI procedures.
- Contribute to the achievement of departmental goals related to H&S, productivity, and quality.
- Ensure KPIs are fully communicated to all finishing stakeholders and fully understood. Monitor and report daily and monthly the finishing departments’ performance against set objectives highlighting any major variance to plan.
- Collaborate with the engineering department to monitor the Spindle breakdown % KPI, aiming to enhance overall productivity and efficiency.
- Ensure accurate data recording for measuring the utilization and efficiency of operators and spindles, respectively.
- Monitor and analyse the utilization and efficiency of operators and spindles to maximize overall productivity.
- Ensure the smooth distribution of orders, following the FIFO principle, and monitor hourly homogeneous dispatch to optimize workflow and order fulfilment.
- Continually drive and promote the use of 5S and lean manufacturing concepts within the finishing department.
- Manage the troubleshooting of adhoc, process and equipment related problems to ensure production levels are maintained
Manage new product Initiation activity
- Do a trial of the said material to find capability, set a program concerning length, lubrication and other machine parameters
- Necessary training and MOC to be shared with the stakeholders
Control financial performance of Finishing Department
- Work alongside the Manager to uphold and improve quality standards in the final winding processes.
- Collaborate with the team to implement quality control measures and address any issues affecting the quality of finished products.
Control Environment, health & safety related issues and other compliances comply with Local and global requirements
- Play a key role in promoting a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with Health & Safety regulations and protocols.
Manage and develop Finishing Team:
- Collaborate with the Manager to identify training needs within the final winding department.
- Facilitate and coordinate training programs to enhance the skills of the finishing team.
- Facilitate the operational maintenance training for winding operators.
- Creating a skill matrix for Non-Management Stuff (NMS) roles in finishing involves identifying and assessing the key skills required for these roles and then developing a training plan to enhance employees' multiskilled capabilities.
- Actively participate in the succession plan for the Final Winding Department, gaining the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to assume the responsibilities of the Finishing Manager role in the future.
Education, Qualifications and Experience:
Essential Skills:
- M.Sc./B.Sc in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment preferred in finishing department
- Strong knowledge of production processes, quality control, and supply chain management.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in production management software (e.g., ERP systems).
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Desired Skills:
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement certifications.
- Strong communication skills to liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of the local rules and regulations governing H&S
- Local environmental legislation
- Preventative maintenance techniques
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001 an advantage
- Pressure vessel maintenance advantageous
