Cyber risk is a material business risk for Coats, with the potential to impact operational continuity, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and reputation. 

Coats needs to hire an experienced and skilled cybersecurity head of defence to steer defence and resilience, build the required strategies, engage the organisation in simulations and work with D&T leadership on being able to resist attacks or respond in the event of an attack.  The role will combine strategic vision with operational oversight, ensuring Coats can anticipate, withstand, respond to, and recover from evolving cyber threats.

Key accountabilities can be summarised as follows:

  • Provide strategic leadership for cyber defence and resilience, ensuring the organisation can effectively prevent, detect, and respond to cyber threats across the enterprise.
  • Own and optimise core security operations and platforms (e.g. email security, endpoint protection, secure access), maximising protection while supporting business productivity.
  • Set up and lead the Security Operations capability, including the SOC operating model, processes, tooling integration, and third‑party support, to deliver 24x7 monitoring and response where required.
  • Drive continuous improvement in cyber resilience, using incident analysis, lessons learned, and recovery testing (including backup and ransomware scenarios) to strengthen controls, processes, and organisational preparedness

 

The ideal candidate will bring :

  • 8-10 years of experience cyber security including significatn leadership responsibility for cyber defence, resilience and security transformation
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives and stranslate cyber risk into business-focused decisions and investment priorities.
  • Security operations and incident response experience and qualifications
  • Proven experience of developing incident response plans and Security Operations Centre (SOC) strategy.
  • Experience of leading SOC and cybersecurity response functions
  • Understanding of cybersecurity best practices for cyber security resilience (e.g. backup and recovery strategy) and industry trends
  • Ability to work across multiple divisions and senior stakeholders
  • Relevant professional cyber security certifications, such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent, demonstrating senior‑level security leadership capability.
  • Experience leading crisis response experience &  table-top exercises.- advantageous
