Role Purpose:

Be responsible for overseeing the entire manufacturing processes of the respective site, ensuring efficient and cost-effective output while maintaining the highest quality standards, safety, compliance to drive profitability in line with the company's strategy.

Work closely with Commercial and Supply Chain teams to ensure that production aligns with customer demands and requirements. Demonstrate strong leadership to drive continuous improvement and achieve operational excellence.

 

Principal Accountabilities and Key Activities:

  1. Manufacturing Strategy and Operational Excellence:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive manufacturing strategy aligned with Coats’ overall objectives.
    • Achieve operational excellence through lean manufacturing principles, standardization, technology integration, innovation, risk management and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Stay informed of best practices of other units at Coats, industry trends and technologies and recommend their adoption to optimize manufacturing operations.
  2. Production Management as per Customer Requirements:
    • Oversee all production activities from laboratory, dyeing, finishing to quality control while ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and budgets.
    • Manage and optimize production capacity and efficient resource allocation.
    • Collaborate extensively with both the Supply Chain and Commercial teams to ensure seamless alignment between production operations and the dynamic demands and expectations of customers.
    • Understand market trends, customer preferences, and sales forecasts.
    • Coordinating with the Supply Chain team for timely delivery of raw materials (GT/Chemicals) and machineries/sparts etc. to support production schedules.
    • Swiftly adjust production plans to meet shifting customer needs, ultimately enhancing customer satisfaction and profitability.
  3. Health and Safety:
    • Establish and enforce comprehensive safety policies in compliance with regulations and standards to ensure a safe workplace.
    • Regularly assess potential hazards and risks in the manufacturing plant and implement control measures to mitigate risks.
    • Foster a culture of accident prevention and continuous improvement in safety practices.
    • Investigate workplace incidents to prevent recurrence, document findings, and implement corrective actions.
    • Foster a culture of safety awareness and accountability among employees through open communication and active participation.
    • Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios and conduct drills to prepare employees for emergencies.
  4. Budget and Cost Optimization:
    • Take a strategic and accountable approach to budget and financial management related to the manufacturing.
    • Identify and implement cost-saving measures throughout the manufacturing process.
    • Oversee capital expenditures for long-term improvements while ensuring adherence to predetermined budgets and timelines.
    • Ensure granular oversight of labor cost-efficiency, direct expenses, and consumables.
    • Constantly monitor spending patterns to proactively identify potential variances from the budget and make informed adjustments to forecasts and achieve financial KPIs.
  1. Workforce Planning and People Leadership:
    • Strategically plan workforce deployment to meet production requirements while optimizing labor efficiency.
    • Provide strong leadership and direction to manufacturing teams, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, continuous learning and improvement.
    • Achieve a stable Industrial Relations with Trade Union through best practices in collaboration with HR.
    • Ensure development of people and keep them motivated and engaged.
    • Manage performance and ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations.

 

  1. Sustainability and Others:
    • Develop and implement strategies to reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing operations.
    • Identify opportunities to conserve energy, water, and raw materials throughout the production process.
    • Lead the adoption of sustainable practices, such as waste reduction, recycling, and the use of environmentally friendly materials.
    • Track and report on progress towards achieving sustainability targets aligned with company goals.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with relevant vendors and suppliers.
    • Adhere to legal, environmental and CR obligations relating to manufacturing plant at Horana and ensure that all requirements are implemented.
    • Ensure compliance with Coats’ policies and processes and overall ethical standards.

Education, Qualifications and Experience:

Essential

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Textile Engineering, Chemistry/Science or in relevant subject.
  • Strong manufacturing background, preferably with dyeing.
  • Minimum 15 years related experience and /or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in industrial management.
  • Advanced interpersonal relationship skills at a variety of levels and greatly differing social and business settings.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities including HR and Health & Safety.
  • In-depth knowledge of Manufacturing best practices including 6 Sigma/Lean process.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of organizational hierarchy.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Certification of NEBOSH or IOSH.

Desirable

  • Experience in Finishing and Winding.
  • MBA or advanced degree.
  • Ability to align function with business priorities, culture change, organization design, strategic planning and communication planning.
