Role Purpose:

Responsible for overseeing the entire manufacturing processes and other related matters of the Plant, ensuring efficient and cost-effective output while maintaining the highest quality standards, safety, compliance to drive profitability in line with the company's strategy.
The position will work closely with Commercial and Supply Chain teams to ensure that production aligns with customer demands and requirements. Demonstrate strong leadership to drive continuous improvement and achieve operational excellence for the respective site.

 

 

Principal Accountabilities and Key Activities:

 

1. Production Management as per Customer Requirements:
o Oversee the site production activities from laboratory, dyeing to finishing while ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and budgets.
o Manage and optimize production capacity and efficient resource allocation.
o Collaborate extensively with both the Supply Chain and Commercial teams to ensure seamless alignment between production operations and the dynamic demands and expectations of customers.
o Understand market trends, customer preferences, and sales forecasts.
o Coordinating with the Supply Chain team for timely delivery of raw materials (Grey Thread/Chemicals) and machineries/sparts etc. to support production schedules.
o Swiftly adjust production plans to meet shifting customer needs, ultimately enhancing customer satisfaction and profitability.


2. Health and Safety:
o Establish and enforce comprehensive safety policies in compliance with regulations and standards to ensure a safe workplace.
o Regularly assess potential hazards and risks in the manufacturing plant and implement control measures to mitigate risks.
o Foster a culture of accident prevention and continuous improvement in safety practices.
o Investigate workplace incidents to prevent recurrence, document findings, and implement corrective actions.
o Foster a culture of safety awareness and accountability among employees through open communication and active participation.
o Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios and conduct drills to prepare employees for emergencies.


3. Budget and Cost Optimization:
o Take a strategic and accountable approach to budget and financial management related to the manufacturing.
o Identify and implement cost-saving measures throughout the manufacturing process.
o Oversee capital expenditures for long-term improvements while ensuring adherence to predetermined budgets and timelines.
o Ensure granular oversight of labor cost-efficiency, direct expenses, and consumables.
o Constantly monitor spending patterns to proactively identify potential variances from the budget and make informed adjustments to forecasts and achieve financial KPIs.


4. Workforce Planning and People Leadership:
o Strategically plan workforce deployment to meet production requirements while optimizing labor efficiency.
o Provide strong leadership and direction to manufacturing teams, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, continuous learning and improvement.
o Achieve a stable Industrial Relations with Trade Union through best practices in collaboration with HR.
o Ensure development of people and keep them motivated and engaged.
Internal Use Only
o Manage performance and ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations.


5. Manufacturing/Operational Excellence:
o Achieve operational excellence through lean manufacturing principles, standardization, technology integration, innovation, risk management and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in the responsible site.
o Stay informed of best practices of other units, industry trends and technologies and recommend their adoption to optimize manufacturing operations.


6. Sustainability and Others:
o Develop and implement strategies to reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing operations.
o Identify opportunities to conserve energy, water, and raw materials throughout the production process.
o Lead the adoption of sustainable practices, such as waste reduction, recycling, and the use of environmentally friendly materials.
o Track and report on progress towards achieving sustainability targets aligned with company goals.
o Develop and maintain strong relationships with relevant vendors and suppliers.
o Adhere to legal, environmental and CR obligations relating to manufacturing plant at Horana and ensure that all requirements are implemented.
o Ensure compliance with company’s policies and processes and overall ethical standards.

 

Education, Qualifications and Experience 

(Include skills and competencies required to perform the role competently)

 

• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Textile Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 12–15 years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, preferably within the Textile (Dyeing) or Apparel industry, or a comparable process-driven manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated track record of leading large, diverse teams with strong leadership skills and ability to motivate, coach, and develop teams.
• Experience leading large-scale, complex operational or capital improvement projects.
• Hands-on leadership experience in Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), including driving a strong safety culture and ensuring regulatory compliance.
• In-depth knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
• Sound knowledge of industrial safety standards and best practices, supported by IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent certification.
• Experience of manufacturing best practices, operational excellence frameworks, and performance management systems.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with shop-floor employees, senior leadership.
