Design Quality Engineer - Automotive (Textiles & Interiors)

Principal Accountabilities and Key Activities

 

1. Customer & OEM Quality Interface

  • Serve as the primary quality contact for OEM Design, Tier 1 suppliers, and customers.
  • Ensure alignment between design intent and manufacturability across the supply chain.
  • Support design reviews and drive feasibility assessments for interior concepts.

 

2. Material & Colour Quality Management

  • Oversee textile and interior material selection processes to meet customer and design requirements.
  • Evaluate colour, grain, gloss, texture, and surface quality to ensure visual consistency across suppliers and production batches.
  • Validate prototypes and pre-serial parts to ensure compliance with specifications and visual quality standards.

 

3. Colour Development & CMF Support

  • Develop new colours for OEM-specific projects and obtain full customer approval.
  • Prepare colour and material trend collections for the European automotive market.
  • Present new CMF ideas to customers and internal teams.

 

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Support

  • Work closely with design, engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure premium product performance.
  • Support problem-solving activities related to interior material quality and craftsmanship.
  • Provide technical guidance during development and pre-serial phases.

 

 

Education, Qualifications and Experience

 

Essential

    • Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial Design, or related fields.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in the automotive industry, ideally in interior systems or material development.
    • Proven experience with textile materials, interior colour & trim, or interior surface quality.
    • Excellent eye for colour, texture, and craftsmanship.
    • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
    • Willingness to travel within Europe, especially Southern Germany.

 

Desirable

  • Experience with leather, fabrics, foils, plastics, and other interior materials.
  • Familiarity with CMF processes and design studio workflows.
  • Proficiency in German and English.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of working time.
